**Madhya Pradesh to Translocate Ten Tigers to Neighbouring States**
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is all set to translocate ten tigers to its neighbouring states as part of efforts to bolster tiger populations in the region. A team from Rajasthan is expected to arrive in Madhya Pradesh soon to discuss the formalities related to this initiative.
A senior Rajasthan Forest Department officer told the Free Press that their state would receive five big cats from Madhya Pradesh. An action plan has already been prepared to facilitate the process. The officer confirmed that the translocation to Rajasthan is scheduled for October, with discussions between the two states’ forest departments imminent.
Sources from Madhya Pradesh revealed that this is the first time the state will be relocating such a large number of tigers to other states. Apart from Rajasthan, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are also in line to accept tigers from Madhya Pradesh, which boasts a significant population of the big cats.
Wildlife activists have noted that the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) had approved the translocation plans well in advance. The introduction of Madhya Pradesh tigers is expected to enhance the gene pool of the big cats in Rajasthan.
While welcoming the move, wildlife activist Ajay Dubey emphasized the need for Rajasthan, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh to ensure the safety of the relocated tigers from poachers, citing past incidents in these states. He also pointed out a critical concern: Rajasthan currently lacks a tiger corridor, which is essential for the movement and survival of these majestic animals.
The translocation initiative highlights a collaborative approach towards tiger conservation, aiming to strengthen populations and genetic diversity across states while addressing region-specific challenges.
