The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its neighboring regions from Saturday through Monday. Currently, Mumbai is under an orange alert for moderate rain accompanied by light thunderstorms and winds. This alert is also applicable to nearby districts such as Palghar, Thane, and Raigad.

Meanwhile, districts including Jalna, Beed, and Solapur remain under a red alert due to the possibility of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.

### Weather Update: Low-Pressure Area Over Bay of Bengal

The IMD predicts moderate rainfall across most parts of Maharashtra with isolated heavy showers likely in several areas. The intensification of rainfall is linked to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, expected to strengthen the monsoon from Friday onwards. According to the Maharashtra Government’s Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR), the southwest monsoon is expected to continue until October 5.

### Fresh Depression Forms as Remnants of Typhoon Ragasa Merge

A new depression is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal by September 27, further increasing rainfall intensity. Independent weather forecaster Athreya Shetty noted that remnants of Typhoon Ragasa will merge with this depression, leading to heavy rains as the system moves toward Maharashtra.

In response, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Friday, escalating to an orange alert from Saturday to Sunday due to the forecast of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

### School Closure in Nanded

In view of the adverse weather conditions, the Nanded administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Saturday. This decision follows an orange alert issued for heavy rains in the district.

Additionally, the IMD has released a red alert warning for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the Latur, Beed, and Dharashiv districts.

### Relief Efforts Underway

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for districts affected by flooding.

Congress leader Dheeraj Deshmukh has also called for a special session of the Maharashtra legislature to address the challenges faced by farmers due to continuous heavy rains and flooding.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing weather situation.
