Local and federal authorities announced on Friday that they are “aware of a new message” related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie. The high-profile search for Nancy continues as investigators work to verify the authenticity of the message.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared on social media that investigators are actively inspecting the new information. Similarly, the FBI released a statement on their social platforms confirming their involvement. However, details about the nature of the message have not been disclosed.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday after her family was unable to locate her at home when she did not show up for church that morning. Authorities believe she is “still out there” and are treating her disappearance as a criminal matter.
Earlier this week, local officials confirmed that blood found outside Nancy Guthrie’s home belongs to her. Despite the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s department has stated that no suspect or person of interest has been identified so far.
In an effort to gather more information, the FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for any leads that result in Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.
Investigators are taking a ransom note seriously, which included a deadline of 5 p.m. on Thursday. Heith Janke, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Phoenix field office, said the note demanded payment in bitcoin. If the payment was not made by the deadline, a second demand was set for the following Monday.
On Wednesday night, Savannah Guthrie appeared in a video alongside her siblings, Camron and Annie Guthrie. They expressed their willingness to communicate with whoever has their mother but emphasized one critical condition.
“We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us,” Savannah said.
The search continues with authorities and the family holding onto hope for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
