**Major Fire Breaks Out at Chemical Godown Along Mumbai-Nashik Highway in Thane**
A major fire broke out at a godown storing chemicals along the Mumbai-Nashik highway in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials reported on Monday. The blaze erupted around 9:45 pm on Sunday, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Thick smoke from the burning chemicals caused panic in the surrounding industrial area as firefighting efforts were underway to douse the flames.
### Incident Details
The fire originated in a chemical storage unit located near Savad Naka in Lonad village of Bhiwandi town along the highway, said Saquib Kharbe, chief of Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell.
Several fire engines and private water tankers were deployed to control the blaze. Four fire engines — two from Kalyan and one each from Bhiwandi and Ulhasnagar — rushed to the spot to assist in the firefighting operation.
While there have been no reports of casualties so far, fire officer Nitin Lad sustained injuries after slipping and falling into a drain while wearing his fire suit during the operation. He was immediately provided medical assistance.
Yasin Tadvi, disaster management cell chief of Thane Municipal Corporation, confirmed that several fire personnel were on site, and efforts were ongoing to extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
