New England Patriots second-year quarterback Drake Maye has delivered an MVP-worthy performance throughout the 2025 NFL season, leading the team to the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Maye’s stellar play has drawn comparisons to Tom Brady, the greatest player in Patriots history and widely regarded as the league’s GOAT.
During this week’s episode of Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Hollywood star Matt Damon shared his thoughts on the similarities he sees between Maye and Brady. The $170 million actor didn’t hold back in his praise of Maye’s game.
“Drake Maye is unbelievable. You know, he seems to have that Tom thing where he just doesn’t get rattled,” Damon said.
Travis Kelce added, “He’s got this ability to feel comfortable — almost like Tom. Tom was incredible at dictating the tempo of a game. Every time I played against him, it felt like we were going at his pace. Drake kind of has that feel, especially when he’s clicking.”
Matt Damon continued, “And he’s what, 23? So he’s just going to get better. I can’t believe how lucky we are in New England to have him.”
After a tumultuous rookie campaign, Drake Maye had a terrific 2025 season. He completed 354 of 492 passes for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. On the ground, he rushed 103 times for 450 yards and four touchdowns.
Maye and the Patriots closed out the regular season with an impressive 38-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins. They will face the Los Angeles Chargers in the upcoming wild-card matchup on Sunday.
Speaking about his opponent, Maye praised Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert:
“I don’t know if I’ve met Justin, I don’t think I have. But I know him through people and have heard great things. I love his game. I love the way he throws the football — he throws at a really high level. He can launch it. Also, the way he carries himself and cares about his teammates shows it’s really about the team, not about him. I have a lot of respect for Justin and how he plays the game at such a high level.”
Despite facing plenty of critics this season, Maye is determined to silence the doubters and lead his team deep into the playoffs.
