Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up for a record-breaking festive season, anticipating double-digit growth fueled by strong demand, attractive price cuts, and a buoyant luxury car market.
At Network18’s Reforms Reloaded event in New Delhi, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, expressed confidence in the upcoming sales period. He revealed that average price reductions range between 5% and 8%, making luxury vehicles more accessible to buyers.
**Impact on Buyers and GST Rate Changes**
Iyer highlighted that a 6% price cut could translate into savings of ₹1.5 lakh to ₹20 lakh for customers. “We operate at a price point of ₹94-95 lakh, with a 10% headroom to price further,” he explained, underscoring the company’s flexibility in pricing.
These developments come as new GST rates take effect, reducing prices across a wide array of consumer products, including premium automobiles.
**Record Sales Expected During Festive Season**
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz India expects the next eight days to set a new benchmark for daily car sales in the country. “We expect the highest ever per-day car sales in India’s history during this period,” Iyer said, pointing to strong festive momentum beginning October 2.
This optimism is supported by Mercedes-Benz’s impressive track record in India, having sold 100,000 units in the past six years—a notable acceleration compared to the 100,000 cars sold over the preceding 30 years.
**Market Strategy and Outlook**
Despite the positive outlook, Iyer cautioned about early signs of a market slowdown. “A full-year impact of even 2-3% more would matter a lot,” he remarked.
To navigate this, Mercedes-Benz is adopting a stance of “strategic patience” in India while maintaining pricing flexibility in response to foreign exchange fluctuations.
Looking forward, Iyer also spoke about long-term growth opportunities stemming from potential trade agreements, such as the proposed EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which could further enhance the accessibility of luxury vehicles in India.

Mercedes-Benz India’s optimistic forecast and strategic approach indicate a promising festive season, reflecting both the brand’s strength and the evolving dynamics of the Indian luxury car market.
