Roberta Buffett Elliott (Weinberg ’54) gifted $11. 8 million to expand undergraduate global education through the eponymous Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, Northwestern announced in a Thursday news release. The gift will expand opportunities in the International Studies program, which falls under the Weinberg College Center for International and Area Studies. The program has now been rechristened the Roberta Buffett International Studies Program in honor of the donation. The gift will expand programming between the Institute and the newly renamed Roberta Buffett International Studies Program to expand courses taught by Practitioners in Residence, experienced professionals who teach advanced seminars in which students tackle real-world projects. “I am passionate about creating international and multidisciplinary learning opportunities for Northwestern students,” Elliott said in the release. “Addressing global issues through research and teaching is critical to the future of the University and the world.” Elliott previously helped establish the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs in 2015 with a $101 million gift. The Buffett Institute brings together researchers and regularly hosts a series of events for researchers to present to the NU community. The program also allows undergraduate students to pursue international experiences in their major. In the 2026-27 academic year, the Buffett Institute will move to the Social Sciences and Global Affairs building, which is currently under construction and slated for completion in December 2026.
