Bonne Terre garden club celebrates 90th anniversary

Dan schunks The Bonne Terre Federated Garden Club celebrated its 90th anniversary with a tea party-luncheon at the Bonne Terre Nutrition Center, Tuesday, Nov. 17. The club was organized in 1934 and became associated with Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri in 1935. The organization was presented with a Proclamation from the City of Bonne Terre, proclaiming November 17, Bonne Terre Garden Club Day. Presenting the proclamation was City Parks Director Kenny Farkas. Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce President Matt Crabtree recognized the club’s benefits to the community and introduced the former State President of the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri, Nancy Bahn. Ms. Bahn spoke briefly on the value of the clubs and their contributions to their communities and thanked the membership for their dedication of purpose. She then administered the oath of office to each of the new officers who will hold their positions for the next year. Those officers are: President, Anna Hatridge; Vice President, Barb Weinhold; Treasurer, Angela Schutz; and Secretary, Karla Acon. President Anna Hatridge acknowledged First State Community Bank with a Federated Garden Club Citation for their support of Arbor Day through the purchase of trees for the event and, in particular, recognized Paula Gettinger and Carla Smith for their role in that support. The event was attended by 14 members of the local club and area garden clubs, who showed their support by sharing in the celebration.
