For the New York Yankees, a rebuild is almost never a consideration. The team is in title contention every year, but after another disappointing exit in 2025, the question of whether or not the Yankees should consider a rebuild has come up once again.
On the surface, the Yankees wouldn’t be smart to undergo a rebuild while Aaron Judge is still in his prime at 33 years old. Wasting a couple of seasons at the tail end of his prime wouldn’t make much sense. Additionally, the Yankees have all the resources necessary to build a contender every year, as evidenced by the fact they haven’t experienced a losing season since 1993.
GM Brian Cashman also agreed that a rebuild isn’t something the Yankees are considering. He shared his thoughts with Ian O’Connor of The Athletic:
“I would recommend one if it was warranted,” Cashman said. “There is no indication that is something that should be considered.”
“We have quality major leaguers winning MVPs and potentially getting Cy Young Award votes, and we have the best record in the American League, and we have Gerrit Cole coming back, along with other guys,” Cashman added. “I don’t understand how a rebuild could even be considered.”
The Yankees will look to stay aggressive this offseason as they aim to build themselves another contender in 2026. The team has been back to the World Series just once since they won it all in 2009, so they’ll be looking to return to the Fall Classic once again next year.
