Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday left for North Bengal to review the ongoing flood situation in the region.
Speaking to the media, Mamata Banerjee informed that reconstruction work has already begun in the affected areas. “For every house, we have sanctioned Rs. 1.2 lakh each, and the families of the deceased have been given Rs. 5 lakh each along with a job as a home guard for one family member,” she stated.
She further added, “Relief kits have been distributed everywhere, and the remaining ones will be delivered soon. Work at the Rohini landslide site has commenced and is expected to be completed within 5–6 days. The temporary bridge in Mirik is also underway and should be ready in 7–8 days. Our administrative officials have been working very effectively throughout this process.”
The West Bengal Chief Minister also mentioned that she will conduct several review meetings in North Bengal to closely monitor the situation. “I will go to Hansimara in Alipurduar, where I have a review meeting planned. I will call everyone to review the situation in the Alipurduar district. After that, I will stay overnight in Hansimara, as it is not possible to travel through the hills at night,” she explained.
Mamata Banerjee added, “Then I will visit Nagrakata and Mirik. Following this, I will go to Darjeeling, where I will stay for one night to hold a review meeting covering both Darjeeling and Kalimpong, since Mirik falls under the Darjeeling district.”
She concluded by stating, “On Friday, I will return to Kolkata for the inauguration of Kali Puja.”
