New Delhi: Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has been accorded a ‘Y’ category security cover following intelligence reports indicating potential threats to him, officials said on Wednesday. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP security wing has been assigned to provide the protection.
Singh, 39, received this high-level security on the recommendation of the Union Home Ministry, which took into account intelligence inputs about possible threats ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. Approximately four armed commandos will guard him during his movements within Bihar, where the polls are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and November 11.
Recently, Pawan Singh met with key political figures including Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and party ally Upendra Kushwaha. This meeting has fueled speculation about a possible political rapprochement ahead of the elections.
In the 2024 general elections, Singh was initially fielded by the BJP from the Asansol constituency in West Bengal. However, he was later asked to withdraw following allegations that his music videos and songs portrayed Bengali women in a vulgar manner.
For context, the VIP security cover under the Central Protection List is categorized from the highest Z-plus (ASL) to Z-plus, Z, Y, Y-plus, and X category.
