Actor-politician Kamal Haasan is scheduled to visit Karur today to meet the families affected by the tragic stampede at a public meeting addressed by actor-politician Vijay. The devastating incident claimed at least 41 lives, including several children, making it one of the worst political event tragedies in recent Indian history.

A senior source from Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), confirmed the visit to NDTV, stating, “Kamal Haasan will visit Karur and meet those who had lost their loved ones around 2:30 PM.”

### Haasan’s Earlier Efforts and Appeal for Compensation

Prior to this visit, Haasan had sent his party office bearers to console the bereaved families and visit the injured. He has also urged the Tamil Nadu government to provide adequate compensation to the victims’ families.

### Investigation Updates

Despite being central to the event, Vijay has yet to visit the grieving families. Meanwhile, the police continue their investigation into the stampede. Two functionaries from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have been arrested, while senior leaders Bussy Anand and Nirmal Kumar remain absconding after their anticipatory bail was denied by the Madras High Court.

They face serious charges including attempt to murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and endangering public safety.

### Official Actions Taken

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Inspector General of Police Asra Garg, has been formed to probe the incident thoroughly. The Madras High Court reprimanded Vijay for leaving the venue immediately after the tragedy and has temporarily banned public meetings and rallies on state and national highways until a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is established.

### Political Fallout

The tragedy has sparked a political blame game. Vijay has alleged a conspiracy by the ruling DMK party, accusations that both the DMK and State Police have strongly denied. Instead, they accuse Vijay of violating safety norms and using the event to boost his political image.

The state government has announced a compensation package of ₹10 lakh for each victim’s family and ₹1 lakh for the injured. Vijay, meanwhile, has promised ₹20 lakh for the victims’ families and ₹2 lakh for the injured from his party fund.

The Karur stampede continues to evoke widespread grief and political tension as families await justice and support.
