**Mumbai’s Charkop Naka to Get New ‘Bhagwan Parshuram Lokshahi Udyan’ Park**
Nearly two years after reclaiming a 6.9-acre encroached plot, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to develop the ‘Bhagwan Parshuram Lokshahi Udyan’ at Charkop Naka, Malad West. This upcoming park promises to be a much-needed recreational space for the local community, featuring an open-air theatre, modern play equipment, a multipurpose turf, and a dedicated playground.
### Encroached Plot Cleared in 2023 Drive
The 6.9-acre plot was previously occupied by 63 unauthorized furniture shops. Many of these shops had illegally expanded their footprint, even utilizing underground spaces for storage. During an encroachment removal drive conducted in October 2023, civic officials uncovered the extent of these violations and promptly cleared the site.
Following the clearance, the BMC undertook essential groundwork to ensure that the space remains accessible and preserved for public use.
### Cultural Heritage Meets Modern Amenities
While the initial plan was to develop a Vedic-themed park, the reclaimed land will now officially become the Bhagwan Parshuram Lokshahi Udyan. The foundation stone for the park was laid earlier this week, marking a key milestone in the project.
The Rs 8 crore initiative is fully funded by the BMC and is being implemented by the P/North ward. According to an official, “Designed as a vibrant recreational hub for residents of all ages, the park will blend cultural heritage with modern amenities. Its boundary walls will feature striking murals celebrating democracy and Bhagwan Parshuram, further enriching the park’s cultural and visual appeal.”
This park is poised to become a landmark community space that fosters both recreation and cultural pride.
