Catasauqua police apprehended a student at the Innovative Arts Academy on Tuesday for carrying a firearm on school grounds, according to media reports.
Authorities were called to the Innovative Arts Academy on Howertown Road around 1 p.m. Tuesday following a report of a pupil with a gun. School officials secured the weapon prior to the arrival of police officers, who then took possession of the firearm.
Details about the student have not been released, and police did not confirm whether the school was placed on lockdown during the incident. A call to the school after hours on Tuesday was not returned.
Police have declined to provide further information, stating only that the incident remains under investigation and that there was no danger to the public.
