Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Announces Rs 1,000 Monthly Unemployment Allowance for Graduate Youth
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a new unemployment allowance of Rs 1,000 per month for graduate youth who are currently jobless. This announcement comes just ahead of the upcoming state elections and is part of the government’s ongoing effort to support the youth in Bihar.
The CM shared the news through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He stated that this scheme is an extension of the existing ‘Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana’, which earlier catered only to those who had passed their 12th grade. Now, graduates in Arts, Science, and Commerce who are unemployed will also benefit from this scheme.
Who Will Get This Allowance?
According to Nitish Kumar, the allowance will be provided to graduates aged between 20 and 25 years who:
- Are not pursuing further studies,
- Are actively looking for jobs or considering self-employment,
- Are not currently employed in government, private, or NGO sectors, and
- Are not running any business.
Those who qualify will receive Rs 1,000 every month for a maximum period of two years. The Chief Minister expressed hope that this financial support will enable young people to focus on training and prepare for competitive exams, ultimately securing better futures.
One Crore Jobs in the Next Five Years
Nitish Kumar also highlighted his government’s broader employment goals. Since taking office in November 2005, the priority has been to create more government jobs and employment opportunities for Bihar’s youth.
He promised that over the next five years, the state aims to provide jobs or employment opportunities to one crore (10 million) young people. Additionally, the government is providing skill development training to help youth become job-ready and self-reliant.
Focus on Jobs Ahead of Elections
This announcement is part of a larger series of welfare initiatives launched ahead of the elections, demonstrating the government’s focus on inclusive development and outreach to every section of society.
With this new unemployment allowance scheme, the Bihar government hopes to earn the trust and support of the youth, assisting them in better career preparation and economic empowerment.
