Julia Roberts Stuns at the Golden Globes in Black Gown, Nominated for ‘After the Hunt’
Julia Roberts attended the Golden Globes wearing a stunning black long-sleeve gown with a deep V-neck, perfectly complemented by her signature wavy, voluminous hair. She added a unique touch to her look with a red and gold strawberry pendant hanging from a delicate gold chain, paired with matching rings, a black clutch, and striking crimson nails.
Roberts appeared at the event not only as a presenter but also in support of her powerful performance in After the Hunt, which earned her a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. In the film, she portrays Alma Imhoff, a philosophy professor at Yale University who faces a complex web of personal and professional challenges after her star pupil, played by Ayo Edebiri, accuses Alma’s colleague and friend Hank (Andrew Garfield) of sexual assault.
Leading up to the film’s release in October, Roberts shared with Variety how different the role felt compared to her real-life personality. “The hardest part for me was not being sympathetic and empathetic,” she said. “For me as a person, it’s like, ‘Oh, how can I hold her?’ And she was not to be held. This was not the time. I have a very hen-like personality; I want to gather, and I want to feed and care. And she’s just the opposite of every instinct I’ve ever had in my life.”
Roberts has also expressed admiration for working alongside Edebiri and Garfield. Speaking to Good Morning America last year, she said, “It’s been really such a beautiful thing to sit next to Ayo, who I really admire and adore, and to listen to the words she chooses and the way she sees the world and this movie.”
She also recalled filming a particularly demanding scene with Garfield, which he impressively nailed on his first day. “First take, just blows in and has this great scene, and you know, it’s a long scene, and then it’s over,” Roberts shared. “You know, ‘Cut.’ And I was just like, ‘Whoa, I’m sweating.’”
