Dwyer senior Hampton Beebe captured the individual 3A state championship and led the Panthers to their first boys golf team state title in school history. Beebe, an Auburn signee, was also recognized as the Sun Sentinel Palm Beach boys golfer of the year.
Beebe finished 4 under par to win the individual state championship with a total score of 140 (72-68). Along the way, he secured an individual district title with a 69 and tied for second at the regional championship with a 66. The Panthers team won district, regional, and state titles, marking a historic achievement for the program.
“It was awesome and a great year,” Beebe said. “It was nice to step up in the postseason and win districts as an individual and help the team. We did amazing at regionals and it was good for our confidence heading into states. We had a great brotherhood and we stuck together to win states.”
Beebe had previously finished tied for fifth at the state championship last season with Jupiter High School. Two years ago, he also tied for fifth at states while competing at Oxbridge Academy.
This year’s state championship presented challenging conditions including cold weather, wind, and a frost delay before the final round. Despite this, Beebe recorded seven birdies on the final day, including an impressive four birdies in the first five holes.
“I think a lot of golfers psyche themselves out and feel it’s way too hard to play that course,” Beebe explained. “It was super windy the first day. I knew I was in a good spot to just be down by one. The second day had better conditions after the frost delay. I got off to a really good start the last day. It’s the tournament I have always wanted to win the most.”
Beebe practices at Jupiter Hills Club and has worked with swing coach Jason Baile for several years to continually improve his game. He has also honed his skills with putting coach Eric Dietrich and trainer Chase Garris.
In addition to his high school success, Beebe claimed first place (68-66-71) at the American Junior Golf Association’s Discover Puerto Rico Junior Championship last January. He also finished fourth (68-68-69) in the Billy Horschel Atlanta Classic this past August and tied for ninth at the Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship last February.
“It’s been a big goal to win an AJGA event,” Beebe said. “It was a pretty big deal and it felt awesome.”
Beebe signed with Auburn University on the same day he won his state title, aligning with National Signing Day. He completed his signing in the morning prior to the start of his final round.
“I love the town, the facilities are amazing and I enjoyed my time with the coaches and players,” Beebe said. “I am extremely blessed and I am excited to play at Auburn. I would not be here without my parents who have believed in me and the support from my siblings. I trust God through my whole journey and that I always know He has an amazing plan for me.”
