**Connecticut Man Accused of Attempted Murder After Allegedly Hiding in Ex-Wife’s Car**
A Connecticut man is facing multiple serious charges after allegedly hiding in his ex-wife’s car, attempting to shoot her, and then fleeing towards the Canadian border before being apprehended by authorities.
According to the Bridgeport Police Department, 33-year-old Joao Victor Borges De Queiroz concealed himself in the trunk of his ex-wife’s vehicle early Tuesday morning. As she drove to work, Borges De Queiroz reportedly pushed down the back seat and fired a shot at her from inside the car. Police said the bullet traveled through the front windshield, narrowly missing the 33-year-old woman.
When the gunshot failed to hit her, Borges De Queiroz allegedly began choking his ex-wife from behind as she tried to drive to safety. Police stated that the victim bravely managed to disarm her attacker and throw the firearm out of the car window.
The struggle continued as Borges De Queiroz reportedly assaulted the woman further while she fought her way out of the car at the intersection of Orange St. and Central Ave. The victim escaped, ran to a nearby residence, and was able to call for help.
Responding officers quickly arrived at the scene, recovered the gun, and obtained video evidence of the harrowing encounter—much of which was reportedly recorded.
Less than 24 hours after the attack, Borges De Queiroz was stopped by Canadian authorities near Vermont’s border. He was handed over to U.S. Border Patrol and taken into custody on a warrant issued by Bridgeport police.
Borges De Queiroz now faces several charges, including attempted murder, stalking, assault, and first-degree kidnapping with a firearm. Additional charges include carrying a pistol without a permit. He is currently being held by police in Vermont, awaiting extradition back to Connecticut for arraignment.
His bond has been set at $1 million.
