Local Roundup: Solano falls to Taft in second round of volleyball playoffs

The Solano College women’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday night with a loss to Taft in the second round of the 3C2A Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons lost 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 to finish the season with a 22-12 record, includingma Bay Valley Conference title and undefeated record. The playoff loss marked the final match for longtime head coach Darla Williams, who guided high school and college teams to over 600 career wins just over 400 of them coming at Solano. “We started off a bit nervous but finished set one playing well,” Williams said on Wednesday. “We got some great serving in set two to throw Taft a bit off its game. I am very proud of this group we are small but probably one of the top defensive teams I have had at Solano. We also have a full roster of local student athletes that work hard every day in the classroom and on the court. We are proud to be a Falcon.” Leading the way for the Falcons on Tuesday night was Bay Valley Conference MVP Kaylie Reyes, who had eight kills, added 11 digs and nine assists, while Giana Guintu led the defense with 15 digs, and 10 assists. Aliyah Aguiar added five kills and two blocks for Solano, while her teammates Kayla Caliboso and Lilli Mass both chipped in four kills each. Jasmine Ting added nine digs and served 9-9 with an ace. Maui Asuncion served 11-11 with an ace and chipped in six digs.
