Posting on TikTok under the handle @Amirthevet, Dr Amir Anwary frequently discusses his work as a veterinarian and shares tips for pet owners. In one video, he decided to address a ‘controversial’ topic by ranking the dog breeds that he sees in his practice. Amir told viewers: Oh my word, you guys, this is gonna be so fun and so controversial. So I’m a veterinarian and I’m going to be ranking my most favourite to least favourite dog breeds to work with as a vet. Number one being my most favourite, number ten being my least favourite.” He then used a TikTok filter that randomly selects dog breeds, before ranking them according to his preferences. For his first spin, Amir got poodles. He said: “I like poodles. I really like them. I’ve never been bitten by one. “They seem super, super chilled. Personally, my opinion, I’m gonna put it at like number five or six, somewhere in the middle. I’m gonna say six cause I feel like there are better breeds that might come up.” For his second spin, he got a bulldog. “I love English bulldogs, guys,” Amir shared. “I mean, the fact that they can’t breathe is super, super sad, but English bulldogs are probably the one breed that has like stolen my heart. I like them so, so much. I wouldn’t own one, but I love their temperament. I’m gonna put it at two.” Next, Amir was tasked with ranking labradors, and he placed them at number five. “I like labradors, but I also see them all the time. They’re chilled. They’re chilled dogs, but the black ones, for some reason, are a bit crazy. Like they like to bite. I don’t know what it is,” he said. Continuing his video, Amir’s reaction wasn’t so positive when he saw a chihuahua. “Satan. Why are they making it smile? The lies, the deception, the inauthenticity,” he joked. He then ranked the breed as number ten. For the next spin, Amir got a golden retriever, and he gave the breed the top spot on his list. “I love goldens. Okay, I’m gonna put it in as one because I love golden retrievers, and other vets say they bite. I’ve never been bitten by a golden retriever. They’ve always been so chilled.” Moving on, he quickly changed his mind, though. Reacting to the spin, he said: “Pit bull, oh no. Okay, I messed up. I messed up. A pit bull should have been one, a golden retriever should have been three. Pit bulls are my favourite. I love pit bulls, obsessed with them, they’re so sweet, never been attacked, never been bitten by a pit bull.” He went on: “Shih tzu. I like shih tzu. They’ve just got so much eye goop, you know, but they’re such a happy dog, also super chill. They don’t like to bite or anything like that. Shih tzu is gonna have to be number four.” With just a few spots left, Amir’s next spin returned a pomeranian. The vet said: “Pomeranians can be kind of sassy, you know, they can be kind of sassy. I do like them. I love them, but they’re also so small, and when you inject them, it feels kind of bad to inject them.” He added: “I don’t know, yeah, a seven is appropriate. It’s appropriate.” For his next dog, Amir ranked German shepherds in ninth spot. “In South Africa, German shepherds are wild. There are way too many German shepherds because of all the crime, and many of them are not trained the right way, so these things can be super aggressive.” Finally, he got a beagle. “So this is literally the perfect lineup if it wasn’t for golden retriever and pit bull. Beagle can definitely go at number eight. I like them as a breed, but they’re always so busy. Like, my god, stop sniffing everything. Can you just chill for like two seconds?”.
