Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has made a massive statement regarding Australian all-rounder Cameron Green ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Chopra hinted that Green might be seen wearing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) jersey next season, sparking excitement among fans and analysts.
KKR is heading into the auction with the largest purse of ₹64.30 crore after releasing 10 players ahead of the season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra reckoned that the franchise is most likely to acquire Cameron Green, who is expected to be one of the hottest properties at the upcoming auction. Chopra further suggested that Green could even serve as a future replacement for the dynamic Andre Russell in the KKR setup.
“I think one must make an edit of Cameron Green in purple and publish it already. KKR need Cameron Green. They will control the auction now because they have a lot of money. The bowling will not get impacted by Johnson, Nortje, or Russell going away. Maybe Green could come in as an upgraded version of Russell,” Chopra stated.
Green missed IPL 2025 due to injury, but he is expected to return for the upcoming season. In his IPL career so far, Green has played 29 matches, scoring 707 runs at an average of 41.58 and a strike rate of 153.69. He has also bagged 16 wickets with the ball.
Chopra also highlighted that the 2024 champions would need to secure a wicketkeeper, considering they have released both Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Although they parted ways with Venkatesh Iyer, Chopra did not rule out the possibility of KKR re-signing him at a lesser price during the auction.
Aakash Chopra’s Take on CSK’s IPL 2026 Strategy
The former batter also shared his thoughts on what the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) need to do at the 2026 auction. After releasing Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and trading out Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, Chopra believes CSK requires an overseas batter for the middle-order, as new recruit Sanju Samson is set to bat at the top.
“With Matheesha Pathirana released, Ashwin retired, Jadeja gone, Curran gone, there is plenty that has happened in that franchise. They have a lot of money. I feel they get a batter in the top order with Sanju coming in, but they still need a good overseas batter in the middle. They need spinners as well. They would want one more overseas fast bowler as well. They are not in a bad space actually. They need some experience so for all we know, they may be interested in Venkatesh Iyer as well, the possibility could be there,” Chopra commented.
CSK will enter the IPL 2026 auction with a purse of ₹43.40 crore. After finishing at the bottom of the table last season, the Chennai franchise will be eager to build a strong squad and make a comeback in the tournament.
