Intel files lawsuit against ex-employee who allegedly copied 18,000 company files & disappeared

Intel Files Lawsuit Against Former Employee Accused of Corporate Sabotage

Intel has launched a lawsuit against a former employee, Jinfeng Luo, who is accused of carrying out a serious act of corporate sabotage. According to Intel, Luo copied approximately 18,000 files from the company’s servers before disappearing, and has since been unreachable.

The lawsuit, filed in Seattle District Court and reported by The Oregonian, alleges damages amounting to around $250,000 should Luo be located. Intel claims that Luo was among the employees scheduled to be laid off by the end of 2025. He was reportedly informed of his termination on July 7, with his last day set to be July 31.

In the days following his notification, Luo allegedly attempted to access company hardware by plugging in an external drive but was locked out by security protocols. However, about five days later, he reportedly plugged in another storage device and successfully copied roughly 18,000 files.

Intel contends that some of the files may have contained “top secret” or “confidential” company information. The unauthorized transfer set off an internal investigation, and the company has since tried to contact Luo at three different addresses over several months to determine the extent of the data breach.

Despite these efforts, Luo has not appeared at any of the listed addresses, and his current whereabouts remain unknown. Intel continues to seek information to assess and mitigate the potential damage caused by this incident.
