“Finally trophy mil gayi” – Journalist hilariously teases Suryakumar Yadav after AUS vs IND 2025 T20I series win

An Indian journalist hilariously teased Suryakumar Yadav after the Men in Blue clinched a 2-1 victory over Australia in the five-match T20I series. During the post-series press conference, the mediaperson jokingly quipped, “Finally, trophy mil gayi” (finally you got the trophy), poking fun at India’s delayed receipt of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy despite winning the tournament.

The quip referenced a peculiar situation in which India celebrated their Asia Cup 2025 triumph over Pakistan but had to do so without the actual trophy. In the Asia Cup final held in Dubai on September 28, India chased down a target of 147 runs, getting home in 19.4 overs thanks to Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 off 53 balls. However, the celebration was somewhat incomplete, as the trophy hadn’t been presented at the time.

At the media interaction on Saturday, November 8, after the conclusion of the T20I series against Australia, the journalist’s comment lightened the mood. Suryakumar Yadav responded with a smile, “Acha lag raha hai dekh ke” (Feels good to see). He seized the moment to congratulate the Indian Women’s team for their recent ODI World Cup victory, stating:

>I just held the trophy after it was presented to me, but recently the women’s team won the World Cup in India. That trophy has also come home. Feels good about that and about this trophy as well.

India secured the five-match T20I series 2-1 after the final game at The Gabba in Brisbane was abandoned due to rain. Only 4.5 overs were bowled, during which India scored 52-0 before the match was called off.

### “Very Important Series Ahead of the T20 World Cup”: Suryakumar Yadav

Reflecting on the positives from the series, Suryakumar Yadav emphasized the significance of this win as part of India’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He said:

>It was a very important series in the lead up to the T20 World Cup. We are playing about 15 T20Is ahead of the World Cup. It is a good challenge playing against Australia in Australia for the players.

The Indian skipper also highlighted the team management’s experimental approach during the series:

>One or two new players played, but you can try them in bilaterals to see where they can fit in. A lot of bowlers also bowled out of position. In the last game, Washi [Washington Sundar] bowled the 17th over. The takeaways were positive in all departments.

Young opener Abhishek Sharma impressed throughout the series and was named Player of the Series. He scored 163 runs in five innings at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 161.39, marking a notable international breakthrough for the rising star.
