The U.S. is considering military strikes on cartel-associated targets in Venezuela, multiple sources told the *Wall Street Journal* on Thursday. The potential strikes would reportedly target Venezuelan military airports and seaports involved in the illicit drug trade.
According to sources with knowledge of the matter, these actions would also serve as a warning to dictator Nicolás Maduro to step down from power.
The strikes could reportedly occur within a matter of days or even hours, sources told the *Miami Herald* on Friday.
President Donald Trump has intensified his pressure campaign against the South American leader, adopting a more forceful military posture than during his first term.
Most recently, the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group was deployed to the Caribbean Sea on October 24, bolstering an already significant U.S. presence off the Venezuelan coast in international waters.
This deployment comes after the Trump administration sent naval assets to the southern Caribbean in August, following its designation of Latin American cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs).
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to the *Daily Caller News Foundation*’s request for comment.
