**DEPIN Project Spacecoin Executes First Blockchain Transaction in Low Earth Orbit**
Blockchain and space may seem like distant fields, but recent developments show they are more closely connected than ever before. From Justin Sun’s space ventures to Elon Musk’s Dogecoin-era antics, the intersection of blockchain and space continues to capture public imagination. Adding a new chapter to this ongoing story, the recent TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore witnessed a groundbreaking demonstration by DEPIN startup Spacecoin.
Founded by Tae Oh in 2024, Spacecoin successfully executed the first end-to-end blockchain transaction routed through low Earth orbit. On Wednesday, the company announced that it had relayed a signed blockchain message via its CTC-0 nanosatellite, marking an unprecedented milestone.
The proof-of-concept involved transmitting a blockchain message from Punta Arenas, Chile to a ground station in the Azores, Portugal, covering an intercontinental distance of roughly 7,000 kilometers. This transaction was later validated on the Creditcoin test chain, confirming the feasibility of blockchain communication through space.
Tae Oh shared the achievement on Twitter, stating:
*“The @_spacecoin team has successfully made a blockchain transaction on our first satellite (CTC-0). The transaction was sent from Chile to Portugal, 7,000 km away. Now we are moving on to the next mission.”*
Most traditional satellite systems in the web2 space tend to be centrally owned, closed networks controlled by single companies. Customers typically subscribe under strict terms and often require permissions from governments or telecommunications providers to gain access.
In contrast, Spacecoin’s DEPIN constellation operates differently. It handles transactions, data requests, and transmissions on a blockchain-based network, making the system permissionless and decentralized. This demonstration at TOKEN2049 was carried out in collaboration with European nanosatellite specialist EnduroSat.
During the proof-of-concept, messages were uplinked to Spacecoin’s CTC-0 satellite from Punta Arenas using S-band radio waves. The satellite then re-transmitted the data to a ground station in the Azores using store-and-forward relay techniques. The successful validation on the Creditcoin network confirmed that blockchain messages can be transmitted through space while maintaining their cryptographic validity.
This innovation means that operators and users can now interact directly over a decentralized space-based network without relying on centralized entities. With such capabilities, Spacecoin is paving the way for a new era of permissionless blockchain communications via satellite.
As Spacecoin looks forward to its next mission, the fusion of blockchain and space technology promises exciting developments ahead.
