Rishab Shetty, the actor-director of *Kantara: Chapter 1*, has clarified that his intent was to tell a universal story rather than promote any specific ideology or agenda through the film. Drawing from coastal Karnataka’s folklore, *Kantara* delves into themes of faith and spirituality.
Speaking to PTI, Shetty said, “As a storyteller, I always think I should never be biased, and that we should tell stories to people, like about our folklore, Bharatiyata, and our belief system of nature worshiping.”
### Storytelling Focus: No Imposition of Thought
Shetty, who co-wrote the film with Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru, emphasized that he does not believe in pushing his personal beliefs onto audiences. “You should have some experience — like you go to a temple, you pray and worship God, you feel it. So, we gave that experience through the story. It is up to you and your choice how you take things from it,” he added.
### Spirituality and Filmmaking
Revealing a deep-rooted connection with spirituality, Shetty shared that his family regularly worships God as part of their lifestyle. He also mentioned that he performs a *puja* at the shooting spot before commencing work.
Expressing gratitude to Hombale Films for their support, Shetty highlighted the challenges involved in crafting a story set in an unfamiliar era.
### World-Building Hurdles: Extensive Research Behind ‘Kantara’
“One of the biggest challenges was creating a believable world for the film,” Shetty explained. “We did a lot of research, talked to many people, collected information, and brought all of that into our story.”
He noted that the team worked tirelessly on every detail, from visuals to costumes. “Extensive work was done on the costumes as well; we tried to ensure that the characters looked colorful and realistic,” he said.
### Future Projects: A Glimpse Into What’s Next
Shetty assured fans that the universe of *Kantara* holds many stories yet to be told, though the timeline for future projects remains uncertain. “There are a lot of stories to be told in the world of Kantara, but I don’t know when and how I’ll do it,” he revealed.
Additionally, Shetty announced that he will begin work next year on a new film titled *Jai Hanuman*.
