**Zoho’s Arattai App to Introduce End-to-End Encryption for Text Chats**

Zoho, the Indian tech giant, is preparing to implement end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for text messages on its messaging platform, Arattai. The announcement was made by Zoho’s CEO, Mani Vembu, in an interview with Moneycontrol. He revealed that although a ‘secret chat’ option with encryption is currently available for private conversations, it is not the default setting yet. The entire team is focused on making this feature accessible to all users soon.
### Enhancing Security
The decision to upgrade Arattai’s security comes in response to growing user concerns about the platform’s safety features. Zoho has already enabled E2EE for voice and video calls on Arattai. Adding encrypted text messaging would bring the app on par with global messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal, which have long prioritized encryption as a fundamental feature.

Developed in-house by Zoho, Arattai aligns with India’s push for digital sovereignty by offering a secure, locally developed alternative to foreign messaging platforms. Launched in early 2021, Arattai is designed as a privacy-focused communication tool suitable for both personal and professional use. The platform benefits from over two decades of Zoho’s engineering expertise and continues to evolve.
### Endorsements from Government Leaders
Arattai’s profile has been boosted by endorsements from prominent Union ministers including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Piyush Goyal. They have publicly supported the app as an indigenous alternative to Big Tech offerings. Zoho’s commitment to data sovereignty is reflected in its policy of hosting all user data within India, avoiding ad-based monetization and third-party tracking.
### Commitment to User Trust and Security
CEO Mani Vembu emphasized that despite the growing interest in Arattai, the team is prioritizing the enhancement of core technology over rushing new updates. “Security and user trust are at the heart of everything we do,” he said. Once end-to-end encryption for text chats becomes the default, all forms of communication on Arattai—including text, voice, and video—will be secured with E2EE, ensuring that even Zoho cannot access users’ messages.
