French MP Quits Gaza Flotilla for ‘Personal Reasons’, Flies to Meet PFLP Reps in Lebanon
Thomas Portes, a French Member of Parliament, recently left the Gaza flotilla citing “personal reasons.” Shortly after his departure, he traveled to Beirut, Lebanon, where he met with representatives of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
Portes’ visit to Beirut included meetings with PFLP members, an action that has sparked criticism from French Jewish politician Shannon Seban. Critics have expressed concern over the timing and nature of Portes’ engagements following his exit from the flotilla.
On September 26th, 2025, Thomas Portes was seen alongside deputy Andree Taurinya, Olivier Besancenot, and Salah Hamouri visiting significant Palestinian sites in Beirut. Their itinerary included the cemetery of the martyrs of the Palestinian cause, as well as the Sabra and Chatila refugee camps and the Mar Elias camp.
These visits underscore ongoing political and humanitarian issues related to the Palestinian cause and have drawn considerable attention amid the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.
