Nagarjuna Files Defamation Case Against Telangana Minister Over Remarks On Naga Chaitanya-Samantha Ruth Prabhu Divorce

Superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni has filed a criminal and defamation case against Telangana Congress Minister Konda Surekha in the Nampally court. This legal action comes in the wake of her recent statements regarding the divorce of Nagarjuna’s son, Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

The complaint has been lodged under Section 356 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita in the district court of Hyderabad. Naga Chaitanya also took to Instagram to share a copy of the complaint, highlighting the severity of the matter.

In the legal documents, Nagarjuna accused Konda Surekha of damaging his family’s reputation through public remarks and unfounded accusations. The case encompasses charges of criminal defamation, followed by civil defamation with a demand for financial compensation.

The controversy originated when Konda Surekha, who is Telangana’s Forest and Environment Minister, made serious allegations during a speech about BRS leader KTR. She accused KTR of having links to drug-related parties and suggested his involvement in the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

During a media interaction, Konda Surekha commented on KTR, the Akkineni family, and Samantha. She claimed that female actors in the Telugu film industry cut short their careers due to KTR’s interventions. Furthermore, she alleged that KTR demanded sexual favors from the Akkineni family before ordering the demolition of their family-owned N-Convention Centre, a sequence of events she linked to Naga and Samantha’s separation.

Responding to these allegations, Nagarjuna described the statements as “irrelevant and false.” He took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his strong condemnation, tweeting:
“I strongly condemn the comments of the honourable minister, Mrs. Konda Surekha. Don’t use the lives of film stars who stay away from politics to criticise your opponents. Please respect other people’s privacy.”

For context, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha announced their separation in 2021. More recently, in August 2024, Naga Chaitanya got engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala.

The legal proceedings continue as the case unfolds in Hyderabad courts, drawing significant attention from both the film industry and political circles.
