US President Donald Trump met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York. According to a statement from Sharif’s office, the Pakistani leader met Trump at the conclusion of the Arab-Islamic Summit, where the two engaged in an informal conversation.

At the same venue, President Trump also held a multilateral meeting on the ongoing Gaza conflict with a select group of leaders from Muslim countries, including Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, the UAE, and Jordan.

The talks focused on exploring potential diplomatic, political, and humanitarian options aimed at bringing an end to the war in Gaza. Participants deliberated on pathways toward de-escalation, ceasefire arrangements, and long-term stability in the region, according to IANS.

### Trump’s Remarks on Meeting Arab Leaders

In brief opening remarks at the discussion, Trump described it as his “most important meeting” of the day. He emphasized the urgency to end the war in Gaza, stating:

> “This is my most important meeting. I’ve had important meetings. This is the one that’s very important to me, because we’re going to end something that you have probably never started. We want to end the war in Gaza. We are going to end it. Maybe we can end it right now.”

### Trump’s Address at the UNGA

Earlier during his address at the UNGA, Trump squarely blamed Hamas for rejecting what he called “reasonable offers” to make peace. He also criticised countries that have recently recognised a Palestinian state:

> “We can’t forget October 7. As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body are seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities.”

He urged unity among those seeking peace, with a clear and urgent message:

> “Those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now.”

This comes amid reports that 10 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, have formally recognised a Palestinian state.
