French MP Quits Gaza Flotilla for ‘Personal Reasons’, Flies to Meet PFLP Representatives in Lebanon

Thomas Portes, a French Member of Parliament, announced his departure from the Gaza flotilla citing “personal reasons.” Shortly after leaving the flotilla, Portes traveled to Beirut, Lebanon, where he met with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

This move has sparked criticism from French Jewish politician Shannon Seban, who publicly questioned Portes’ decision to engage with the PFLP, a group that has been subject to controversy.

On September 26th, 2025, Thomas Portes, accompanied by deputy Andrée Taurinya, Olivier Besancenot, and Salah Hamouri, visited several significant sites in Beirut. Their itinerary included the cemetery of the martyrs of the Palestinian cause, as well as the Sabra and Chatila refugee camps and the Mar Elias camp.

The visit highlights ongoing political and humanitarian concerns in the region and has stirred debate among political circles in France and beyond.
