The Cleveland Browns’ Week 10 loss to the New York Jets was somehow even worse than it initially seemed. Entering Week 10 with a 2-6 record and expectations already low, many fans anticipated a Cleveland victory over the struggling 1-7 Jets, who had just traded away key players Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams the previous week. Instead, the Browns fell apart in an ugly 27-20 defeat.
To make matters worse, the Jets became the first team since 1950 to win an NFL game while gaining 175 or fewer scrimmage yards, according to ESPN’s Rick Cimini. Before this game, teams holding their opponents to 175 or fewer yards were undefeated at 225-0. New York managed just 169 total yards in the game, highlighting the Browns’ defensive dominance—or so it seemed.
The Jets’ offense struggled, with Aaron Glenn waiting until the last second to decide on a starting quarterback before settling on Justin Fields. Fields could only muster 54 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Despite the lack of offensive production, New York’s special teams made the difference. Kene Nwangwu returned a kickoff 99 yards for the team’s first score, followed minutes later by Isaiah Williams’ 74-yard punt return touchdown.
The Browns’ offense didn’t have its best game either, managing just 278 scrimmage yards. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel had another inefficient outing, completing 17 of 32 passes for 167 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. This marked the fourth time in five starts that Gabriel finished with fewer than 200 passing yards.
### Browns Stick With Dillon Gabriel Despite Jets Disaster
Despite mounting frustration from fans eager for change, the Browns will not be benching Gabriel in Week 11. Head coach Kevin Stefanski doubled down on his commitment to the third-round pick, confirming that Gabriel will remain the starter.
Cleveland has previously indicated it does not plan to rely heavily on Shedeur Sanders in 2025 despite public pressure to do so. Instead, the organization wants a full evaluation of Gabriel as a potential franchise quarterback.
With nine games left to assess Gabriel, the early results have been disappointing. The Browns are averaging just 262.6 total yards per game in Gabriel’s five starts, posting a 1-4 record during that stretch. The upcoming weeks will be critical for both Gabriel and the Browns as they look to turn their season around.
