Senator Lummis Says Bitcoin Reserve Is the Only Solution to the U.S. National Debt
Senator Cynthia Lummis believes that Bitcoin holds the key to addressing America’s ballooning $37 trillion national debt.
In recent statements, Senator Lummis has renewed her call for the establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR), arguing that it could help offset the national debt while serving as a long-term hedge against inflation. She emphasized that Bitcoin is a growing asset capable of protecting America’s financial future.
Lummis took to Twitter to express her support, stating, “I truly believe the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is the only solution to offset our national debt. I applaud President Donald Trump and his administration for embracing the SBR, and I look forward to getting it done.” This message was shared alongside a clip from a Bloomberg Television interview where she discussed the increasing interest in Bitcoin-backed reserves at the federal level.
During the interview, when questioned about the possibility of converting U.S. gold reserves into Bitcoin, Lummis clarified that there has been no progress on that front. However, she confirmed that the Trump administration is actively exploring “other ways to have a strategic Bitcoin reserve.” She highlighted Bitcoin’s potential as an asset that will grow over time and help counterbalance the nation’s rising debt.
Currently, the United States’ national debt exceeds $37 trillion and shows no signs of slowing down. As a long-time Bitcoin advocate, Senator Lummis continues to frame the cryptocurrency as a modern-day hedge comparable to gold or oil, with the ability to ensure long-term fiscal stability.
Earlier this year, Lummis, alongside Congressman Nick Begich, introduced the BITCOIN Act of 2025. This legislation outlines a comprehensive national cryptocurrency strategy, including provisions to establish a government-controlled Bitcoin reserve.
