The iconic ’90s alternative grunge band, The Smashing Pumpkins, have canceled their much-anticipated debut tour in India due to “unexpected logistical challenges and conditions out of our control,” according to a statement posted on the band’s official Facebook page.
The group was scheduled to perform in Bengaluru on October 11 and Mumbai on October 12 as part of their Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour. This marks what would have been their first-ever shows in India.
Fronted by Billy Corgan, alongside James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, the band expressed deep regret over the cancellation. In their statement, they said, “We cannot perform these shows up to the standards that we and our fans expect.”
Joining the core members on tour were live musicians Jack Bates (bass), Kiki Wong (guitar), and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole, promising a setlist that spans over three decades of the band’s groundbreaking music.
**A Lasting Legacy on Alternative Rock**
The Smashing Pumpkins have left a significant mark on the ‘90s grunge movement and continue to influence alternative rock artists worldwide. Celebrated for iconic tracks such as “Tonight, Tonight,” “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” “Today,” and “1979,” the band is also known for their experimental sound across albums like *Adore* and the critically acclaimed *Machina/The Machines of God*.
**About the Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour**
The Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour kicked off in Japan in September and includes stops across Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Busan, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Singapore. This two-month-long tour marks The Smashing Pumpkins’ first visit to Asia in over a decade—12 years since their last trip to Japan and 15 years since their South Korea performances.
The India leg of the tour was brought to the country by EVA Live, but unfortunately, fans will have to wait longer to see the band perform on Indian soil.
