“High school coach energy,” “Moments before disaster”: CFB fans erupt as Texas A&M hands Mike Elko a massive contract extension

Mike Elko has done a fabulous job with the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies this season. The Aggies are one of the few teams that still boast an unbeaten record and are on course to make the College Football Playoff.

On Saturday, reports claimed that Texas A&M is finalizing a lucrative six-year contract extension to keep Elko at the helm for the long haul. The deal will see Elko receive more than $11 million annually, sparking a variety of reactions on social media.

One user tweeted, “High school coach energy.” Another commented, “Moments before disaster,” while a third added, “All this just to lose today.”

Here are a few more reactions from fans and followers:
– “Home boy has a game in an hour and is out here making money decisions.”
– “Good move since he’s won all those titles, oh shoot, my bad.”
– “You just can’t even feel bad for these schools.”

Texas A&M hired Elko in November 2023. He led the Aggies to an 8-5 record in his first year at the helm last season.

If Elko signs the extension, reports say he will become one of the top-10 highest-paid college football coaches in the country.

Looking ahead, Mike Elko’s Texas A&M Aggies (9-0) will face the South Carolina Gamecocks (3-6) in Week 12 of the 2025 college football season. The game is scheduled for Saturday at noon ET and will be held at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.

The Aggies will be eager to continue their unbeaten record when they host South Carolina. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks will need a win to keep their hopes alive for bowl eligibility.
