During WWE’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event,” John Cena revealed a massive 16-man tournament to determine the opponent for his final match. The tournament, officially called “The My Time Is Now Tournament,” begins this month with a bracket yet to be revealed. This announcement has already sparked speculation among fans and wrestling analysts about which superstars might compete for a chance to face Cena in his final bout.
WWE’s tournament bracket may already include 11 names, hinted at during Cena’s promotional video on “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” The footage featured quick clips and highlights of various WWE stars as Cena made his announcement. Some of these individuals are former foes, while others are superstars he has never faced one-on-one in the ring.
Among the former opponents are The Miz, Rusev, and Sheamus. Cena has famously battled The Miz throughout his career, including a tag team match with The Rock against The Miz and R-Truth at WWE Survivor Series 2011.
Additionally, the announcement showcased several competitors Cena has yet to face individually. These include WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, Drew McIntyre, Bronson Reed, Solo Sikoa, Penta, Carmelo Hayes, and GUNTHER. Notably, the list left out Bron Breakker, which some speculate was an intentional omission.
If these 11 individuals are indeed part of the tournament bracket, that leaves room for five more participants. Cena hinted that some competitors might come from outside WWE, suggesting potential involvement from promotions like TNA or AAA, both of which WWE has working relationships with.
Early speculation from TNA’s side includes notable former WWE stars such as Jeff Hardy, Matt Cardona (also known as Matt Ryder), and Nic Nemeth, better known as WWE’s Dolph Ziggler. Each has some history with Cena from their WWE days.
While the idea of AEW stars participating in Cena’s tournament seems unlikely, Cena’s widespread recognition in the professional wrestling world means surprises can’t be ruled out.
John Cena’s final match is scheduled for “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on December 13, exclusively live-streamed on Peacock.
