Jon Stewart Isn’t Going Anywhere
Jon Stewart has signed another one-year deal to remain as one of the hosts and executive producers of *The Daily Show* through the end of 2026. This marks his third such contract, extending his involvement with the show through December of next year.
This renewal was anticipated, as Stewart hinted at staying on during a recent live interview with *The New Yorker*’s David Remnick. Speaking to his longtime friend, Stewart said, “We’re working on staying.”
Stewart currently hosts the show on Mondays alongside Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic. Josh Johnson hosts the show for the remaining nights. Stewart returned to *The Daily Show* at the start of 2024 after signing a one-year deal at the same time last year.
The show has been performing well in the ratings recently and earned its best haul of Emmy nominations this year, including wins for Desi Lydic. Despite this success, there have been questions about the show’s future following parent company Paramount’s abrupt cancellation of *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*, a program on which Stewart also serves as an executive producer.
Stewart addressed these concerns in his interview with *The New Yorker*, saying, “[Paramount have] already done things that I’m upset about. But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole.”
In the days following the cancellation of Colbert’s show, Stewart reportedly told his employer to “go f*ck yourself” and joked that after a summer hiatus, he wasn’t sure whether the new owners, Skydance — led by David Ellison — would “let us back in the building.”
Alongside Stewart, *The Daily Show* is executive produced by showrunner Jen Flanz and Stewart’s manager, James ‘Baby Doll’ Dixon.
With Stewart committed to the show and the team continuing strong, *The Daily Show* looks set to remain a key player in late-night television for the foreseeable future.
