Urban Meyer rules out coaching comeback despite multiple high-profile college football job openings

It has been nearly four years since Urban Meyer’s tumultuous tenure as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars came to an end. The Jaguars marked Meyer’s first NFL coaching position, arriving three years after his final game leading the sidelines at Ohio State.

Meyer became a hero in Columbus, much like he was in Gainesville, where he coached the Florida Gators to two national championships. His college coaching career was nothing short of remarkable, compiling an astounding 187-32 record. In stark contrast, his brief NFL career with Jacksonville resulted in a disappointing 2-11 record.

Several high-profile coaching jobs are currently available at programs like Penn State, LSU, and even Meyer’s former employer in Florida. However, don’t expect Meyer to return to the coaching ranks anytime soon.

When asked by WSYX if he had any thoughts on returning to coaching, Meyer kept his response concise: “I don’t have a desire.”

Instead, Meyer expressed strong support for Ohio State assistant coach Brian Hartline, whom he has “always been a big fan” of. “He just needs the experience. I’m glad he stayed here. He had a chance to leave, and he learned from us and learned from coach [Ryan] Day. So I think he’s ready,” Meyer said.
