Mavericks sign ex-Lakers guard in reunion with Anthony Davis

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard D’Moi Hodge, the team announced on Friday. This move further bolsters the Mavericks’ guard depth and comes just a day after reports surfaced that the Mavs and Dennis Smith Jr. agreed to a contract.

Hodge brings valuable experience to Dallas, having played for the Greek team Aris Thessaloniki during the 2024-25 campaign. Prior to that, in the 2023-24 season, he was with the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way contract, appearing in seven NBA games. During his time with the Lakers, Hodge shared the court with former Lakers and current Mavericks players Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and D’Angelo Russell.

In those seven NBA games, Hodge averaged 2.0 points and 5.9 minutes per outing. Beyond the NBA, he has played in 30 G League games, where he posted averages of 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per contest.

Hodge is regarded as a legitimate two-way player with promising NBA potential. On defense, he is known for his ability to disrupt opponents and can effectively guard both point guards and shooting guards. Offensively, Hodge offers floor spacing and shows the potential to develop into a reliable three-point shooter at the NBA level.

While this signing might not grab headlines, it could prove to be an underrated move for the Mavericks. Although Hodge does not possess superstar potential, he has the tools to become a solid contributor in the league given the opportunity.

With the Mavericks’ training camp approaching, competition for roster spots will be fierce. D’Moi Hodge will look to impress head coach Jason Kidd and the coaching staff in hopes of securing a place on the team.

Considering that Kyrie Irving is likely to be out until early 2026, Dallas has already made moves to address its guard rotation by signing D’Angelo Russell, re-signing Dante Exum, and bringing in Dennis Smith Jr. Nevertheless, Hodge could still have a meaningful impact down the road.

Keep an eye on D’Moi Hodge as he strives to carve out his role with the Dallas Mavericks.
