In the wake of his plans to construct a new ballroom at the White House, Donald Trump has fired all six sitting members of the Commission of Fine Arts, the board responsible for overseeing architecture in Washington, D.C., RadarOnline.com has learned.
A White House spokesperson commented on the move, stating, “We are preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump’s America First policies.”
### Were the Firings Warranted?
The Commission of Fine Arts comprised six members, all appointed during Joe Biden’s presidency. While the firings may seem abrupt, they are not without precedent. Biden himself replaced at least six members of the commission who were appointed by Trump during his first term.
Currently, Trump is in the midst of a major renovation project involving the East Wing of the White House, aiming to craft a 90,000-square-foot ballroom. Additionally, he has plans to build a massive triumphal arch across the river from D.C.
In August, Trump signed an executive order titled *“Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again,”* which calls for all future D.C.-area federal architecture to be modeled on the styles of ancient Greece and Rome.
### Donald Trump’s East Wing Demolition
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, demolition recently began on the East Wing. Trump addressed reporters, saying, “You probably hear the beautiful sound of construction to the back. You hear that sound? That’s music to my ears. I love that sound. Other people don’t like it; I love it.”
He added, “I think when I hear that sound, it reminds me of money.”
Although Trump initially stated the ballroom would be “near it but not touching” the existing East Wing building, a White House representative clarified that “the entirety of the East Wing will be modernized.”
### White House Statement on the East Wing Changes
The proposed alterations to the historic East Wing have sparked significant criticism. In response, the White House issued the following statement:
“In the latest instance of manufactured outrage, unhinged leftists and their Fake News allies are clutching their pearls over President Donald J. Trump’s visionary addition of a grand, privately funded ballroom to the White House – a bold, necessary addition that echoes the storied history of improvements and additions from commanders-in-chief to keep the executive residence as a beacon of American excellence.”
Alongside the statement, the White House highlighted previous renovation updates that had been made to the East Wing and other areas of the residence.
Amid ongoing pushback, a seven-foot fence was erected around the East Wing to block most of the construction from public view.
### Public Backlash Over the East Wing Renovation
Social media users have been quick to criticize Trump’s East Wing ballroom project. One user wrote on X, “Trump’s ‘grand ballroom’ is just the latest brick in his wall of vanity, demolishing not just the White House but the soul of our nation, one historic facade at a time.”
Another added, “The reason he’s completely ‘overhauling’ the White House is because he doesn’t plan on leaving. When he told his base this was the last time they would ever have to vote, he meant that. Everything that is happening in this country is indicative of that. Wake up.”
As the debate continues, the future of the White House’s architectural heritage remains a contentious issue under Trump’s administration.
