**UN Security Council Decides Not to Lift Iran Sanctions, But Still Time to Agree on Delay**

The UN Security Council has decided not to lift sanctions on Iran at this time. The resolution accused Tehran of failing to abide by the terms of a 2015 agreement with world powers, which aimed to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Despite the decision, there remains an opportunity to negotiate a delay in the sanctions lifting.

In a recent vote held at the UN headquarters in New York City on September 19, 2025, members of the Security Council voted against a resolution that would have permanently lifted UN sanctions on Iran.
