Courtney Hope, who portrays Sally Spectra on *The Young and the Restless*, recently offered deeper insight into her character’s complex relationship with Billy. While fans sometimes question why Sally remains with Billy despite their challenges, the Daytime Emmy-winning actress shared thoughtful perspectives on Sally’s decision to stay.
In an interview with *Soap Opera Digest*, Courtney Hope explained the motivations behind Sally’s loyalty to Billy. “Well, for a lot of reasons, I think,” she said. “First of all, she really cares about Billy.” Hope noted that Sally has developed a deep connection with Billy and admires his fight for what he believes in. “Sally sees herself in that.”
Billy had initially left Sally to run Abbott Communications on her own after encouraging her to work alongside him. Later, when Sally tried to end their relationship, Billy convinced her to give him a second chance. “Sally had a really rough childhood and always wanted the family and relationship she never had,” the actress explained. She believes this background fuels Sally’s determination to protect the people she cares about. “When she was younger, she would lose them. I think it makes her even more of a fighter to want to save the people that she’s with. It’s just doubling down on really caring about someone, but also not wanting him to go off the rails.”
Courtney Hope also emphasized the positive moments Sally and Billy have shared, despite their differences. “She sees the best in people,” Hope shared. “And she feels like she has some stake in the outcome if she can really invest herself into the relationship and possibly help and/or save them. So that’s a huge reason.”
