Mercedes and McLaren reportedly the two teams in breach of the 2024 F1 cost cap

**Mercedes and McLaren Reportedly Breach 2024 F1 Cost Cap**

According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Mercedes and McLaren have reportedly exceeded the 2024 Formula 1 cost cap. Notably, Red Bull’s name has not been mentioned in this context this time, making Mercedes and McLaren the only teams cited for potential breaches.

Amid the ongoing Mexico GP, the FIA released a statement confirming that more than one team was found to have breached the F1 cost cap last year. Although the governing body did not disclose the names of the teams involved, paddock insiders suggest that the teams led by Toto Wolff (Mercedes) and Zak Brown (McLaren) were under scrutiny.

The cost cap regulation, introduced in 2021, mandates that teams must not exceed the allocated budget. Any breach leads to significant penalties imposed by the FIA the following year. Initially set at $135 million, the cap has gradually adjusted over the seasons and currently stands around $150-160 million per season.

It’s important to note that only costs related to development and performance are counted under these rules. Expenses such as salaries for the top three paid executives, driver salaries, and marketing costs are excluded from the calculations.

As of now, the FIA has yet to officially reveal the names of the teams that have breached the 2024 cost cap.

**FIA Releases Statement on F1 Cost Cap Administration**

The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body, provided an update on the administration of the cost cap:

“The FIA’s Cost Cap Administration is in the process of finalizing the review of the 2024 submissions from Teams and Power Unit Manufacturers, the result of which is expected to be communicated shortly. The FIA does not comment on individual submissions made by specific Teams and/or Power Unit Manufacturers and, as per established practice, the results of the review will be made public once assessment of all submissions are completed and finalized.”

**Mexico GP Recap**

In race action, Lando Norris of McLaren took a thrilling victory at the Mexico GP, finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell finished the race in 6th and 7th positions, respectively.

The ongoing season continues to showcase fierce competition both on and off the track, with team budgets and performances closely monitored under the cost cap regulations.
