Grambling State upsets Jackson State in compelling Las Vegas showdown

In a game worthy of the huge Las Vegas stage, Grambling State pulled off a stunning 26-24 upset over the defending SWAC Champion Jackson State Tigers. While Grambling has struggled mightily this season, Jackson State has consistently been the best team in HBCU football. Heading into the matchup, many HBCU fans and football prognosticators expected Jackson State to win in dominating fashion.

The game itself was heavily impacted by injuries to both starting quarterbacks. Jackson State’s star quarterback, Jacobian Morgan, left the game in the first quarter with an apparent lower leg injury. Viewers watching the contest—produced by HBCU Go and streamed live on Prime Video—saw Morgan limping heavily on the sideline as he moved toward the medical tent. Later, the broadcast showed him in street clothes, wearing a walking boot and using crutches, confirming his night was cut short. Ultimately, Morgan was carted off by ambulance.

Following Morgan’s departure, Grambling State continued their drive and put themselves in field-goal range. Josh McCormick then drilled a 44-yard field goal that put Grambling ahead for good.

Before his injury, Teasett was the standout player for Grambling State. He finished the game with 232 yards and two touchdowns on 13 of 26 passing attempts. His strong performance helped put the G-Men in position to pull off the miraculous victory.

Looking ahead, Jackson State will head to Tallahassee to face Florida A&M next Saturday at 7 PM EST. The game will air on ESPN+. Meanwhile, Grambling State will take on Alabama A&M on Saturday at 3 PM EST.
