**Catan is Getting the Netflix Treatment**
The world-famous tabletop game *Catan*, formerly known as *Settlers of Catan*, is the latest game to be adapted by Netflix. The streamer has signed a “wide-range deal” for the exclusive global rights to bring the iconic game to screens worldwide.
The company behind *Catan*, Asmodee, announced the collaboration in a celebratory press release. “The upcoming projects will be the first adaptation to bring the fictional island of CATAN—a place where settlers must navigate bountiful and varied landscapes, shifting alliances, and limited resources, while robbers roam the land—to life through a richly imagined narrative,” the release states.
Details about the specific projects currently in development remain under wraps. However, Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series in the US and Canada, highlighted the potential of the partnership: “Anyone who has played CATAN knows that the intense strategy at the core of the game has endless opportunities for some serious drama.”
Howe added, “We’re thrilled to partner across series, features, animation, and games to bring this world to life for hardcore Settlers and new fans alike.”
The press release also confirmed that *Catan* will be adapted into “ambitious” live-action and animated projects, both scripted and unscripted, expanding the game’s rich universe into multiple formats.
Originally released in 1995 as *The Settlers of Catan* by the late creator Klaus Teuber, the game challenges players to build settlements, trade resources, and outwit opponents in a strategic race for dominance.
Teuber’s sons, Guido and Benjamin Teuber, will produce all projects under the deal alongside Asmodee’s Darren Kyman and Pete Fenlon of CATAN Studio.
This announcement follows Netflix’s recent adaptation of Asmodee’s French card game *The Werewolves of Millers Hollow* into the French film *Family Pack* (also known as *Loups-garous*).
*Catan* joins a growing list of games turned into Netflix series, following successes like *Arcane* and *Castlevania*. Netflix is also developing a *Assassin’s Creed* series and a *Monopoly* reality competition, further expanding its presence in gaming adaptations.
Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project evolves!
