Michigan Wolverines’ Coach Erin Virtue Reflects on Loss to Nebraska Volleyball Team
In a highly anticipated 2025 season matchup, the Nebraska volleyball team secured their ninth victory with a commanding 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 straight-set sweep over the Michigan Wolverines. The match took place at a fully packed Crisler Center, with 12,707 fans in attendance, creating an electric atmosphere.
Nebraska’s Harper Murray stood out in the contest, tallying nine kills and surpassing the impressive milestone of 1,000 career kills. Complementing her performance, Andi Jackson contributed eight kills with a remarkable .500 hitting percentage and added six blocks, while Taylor Landfair chipped in seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage.
Despite the loss, the Wolverines began the first set with strong momentum. However, Nebraska maintained consistent pressure through solid defense and minimized unforced errors throughout the match.
After the game, Michigan’s coach Erin Virtue shared her insights on Nebraska’s composure during critical moments. “They’re not really going to make an error. You have to really go and earn your chances,” Virtue stated in a post-match interview.
Coach Virtue also commented on Michigan’s early efforts: “I liked how it was point-for-point up until about the middle of the first. But when you get a gap against a good team, it’s hard to come back from that.” She reflected on how once Nebraska took control of the lead, it became challenging for the Wolverines to regain momentum.
Nebraska Coach Dani Busboom Kelly Praises Team’s Defensive Effort
In an interview with the Huskers Radio Network, Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom Kelly expressed her thoughts on the team’s performance against Michigan. Acknowledging the challenge ahead, she highlighted Michigan’s strong lineup of outside hitters as a potential threat.
Busboom Kelly praised Nebraska’s defense for stepping up and contributing to a collective team effort. She also commended the squad’s preparation to counter Michigan’s fast offense and singled out Andi Jackson for her impressive blocking.
“I thought Michigan would come out on fire, having just lost a tough five-set match against Northwestern on Thursday. They’ve got some outside hitters that have heavy arms, and so I was a little worried. I thought our defense really stepped up, and offensively, I thought Bergen had a great match,” Kelly commented.
Looking Ahead
The Nebraska volleyball team is set to continue their season when they take on Northwestern on October 24, 2025, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Fans can expect another intense and competitive matchup as the Huskers look to build on their recent success.
