**Boy Killed by Alligator in Louisiana; Mother Arrested for Negligence**

Bryan Vasquez, a 12-year-old boy with a neurodevelopmental disorder, was tragically killed by an alligator after wandering away from his home in Louisiana. RadarOnline.com has learned that Bryan’s mother, Hilda Vasquez, 34, has been arrested in connection with his death.
Bryan, who was nonverbal and did not understand English or Spanish, was last seen on August 12 wearing an adult diaper and walking in an unknown direction near the family’s residence in New Orleans. Despite efforts to find him, hopes for a safe return were dashed on August 26, when Bryan’s lifeless body was discovered in a nearby lagoon by volunteers from the United Cajun Navy.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt trauma consistent with an alligator attack and drowning.
Authorities have since charged Hilda Vasquez with negligent homicide and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Investigators allege a pattern of negligence by the mother and claim that Bryan had previously been a victim of trauma.
Deputy Superintendent Nicholas Gernon stated, “We believe that we can prove that that pattern of negligence and abuse led to undue pain and suffering on [Bryan’s] part.”
According to police records, Hilda was convicted in the past of cruelty to a juvenile for abusing Bryan when he was just three months old. The abuse resulted in a skull fracture, broken legs, and a collapsed lung. Although Bryan was initially removed from her care by the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services, he was eventually returned to her custody.
While the case is ongoing, Hilda Vasquez is barred from having any contact with her three remaining children if she is released on bail.
Assistant Superintendent Hans Ganthier commented on the case, saying, “This was an emotional and really traumatic case, not just for the community, the family, but also our own officers.”
The heartbreaking incident has left a lasting impact on the New Orleans community, highlighting the tragic consequences of child neglect.
