Assamese singer Zubeen Garg passed away in September this year, and Assam is still in a state of shock and grief. In honor of Zubeen, the 10th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival has been postponed. The festival was originally scheduled to take place in Assam from December 4 to 7, 2025.
The organisers shared the announcement on Instagram with a heartfelt post that read:
“It is with a heavy heart that the 10th edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, originally scheduled for December 4-7, 2025, has been postponed to a later date in 2026. This decision comes as Assam mourns the loss of its most beloved cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, whose voice and vision defined generations. BVFF stands in solidarity with the people and the creative community.”
The post further continued:
“As a festival deeply rooted in the cultural and emotional fabric of this land, we feel it is only right to pause our celebrations this year, in remembrance and respect. We are deeply grateful to our filmmakers, partners, and audience for their continued support and understanding. Refunds for all submissions will be processed in due course.

### Zubeen Garg Death Update
The investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death has taken a dramatic turn. Five people accused in the case were sent to four-day judicial custody on Wednesday. The accused include Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma; Northeast Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta; police officer and cousin Sandipan Garg; and his two personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.
When the accused were brought to Baksa District Jail, a massive crowd had gathered outside. Protestors reacted strongly, throwing sandals and pelting stones at the police transport carrying the suspects. Some vehicles parked near the jail were even set on fire during the unrest.

For those unaware, Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, while in Singapore. Initial media reports suggested that his death was the result of a scuba diving accident. However, subsequent investigations revealed that he died by drowning.
