Leicestershire have been crowned Division Two champions in the Rothesay County Championship, despite their final match against Kent being abandoned due to rain. Early morning showers rendered the outfield at Uptonsteel County Ground too wet for play, prompting umpires Hassan Adnan and Simon Widdup to call off the match after multiple inspections.

### Title Secured: Promotion to Division One After 22 Years

Although the match was a washout, Leicestershire’s commanding 25-point lead entering the last two rounds secured their promotion as Division Two champions. This achievement marks their return to Division One cricket for the first time since 2003. While the team would have preferred to clinch the title on the field and lift the trophy in front of their home fans, the result was nonetheless a significant milestone.

### Celebrations Amidst Disappointment

Leicestershire players celebrated their hard-earned title with champagne and unveiled a ‘Champions’ board, creatively fashioned from part of the boundary board. The only member missing the joy of an on-field farewell was veteran seamer Chris Wright, who is retiring at the end of this season. Wright had hoped to enjoy a final home game send-off but was unfortunate due to the weather conditions.

### Season Overview: Second Trophy in Three Seasons

Leicestershire’s campaign faced challenges from weather disruptions, with four of their last six matches ending in draws. However, after winning five out of their first seven games, they maintained their favourite status for the title from late May onwards. This championship triumph is their second trophy in three seasons, following their 2023 Metro Bank One-Day Cup victory, and their first County Championship title since 1998.

### Top Performers of the Season

– **Lewis Hill** leads as Leicestershire’s top batsman, scoring 877 runs at an average of 48.72, including two centuries and six fifties across 13 matches (19 innings).

– **Rehan Ahmed** has also been outstanding with the bat, amassing 760 runs at an impressive average of 50.66, with five hundreds and one fifty.

– **Ian Holland** topped the bowling charts for Leicestershire, taking 35 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.62.

Leicestershire’s championship victory marks a proud moment for the team and their supporters as they look forward to competing in Division One next season.
