Three BJP MLAs from Nashik met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Tuesday to raise several key concerns related to the city’s development and safety.
The MLAs — Devyani Pharande, Seema Hiray, and Rahul Dhikale — submitted a memorandum to the CM, highlighting pressing issues faced by Nashik residents. Among the primary concerns was the deteriorating law and order situation. Over the past four months, 24 murders have been reported in Nashik and surrounding areas, drawing widespread criticism of the police force. Since the Home Department falls under the Chief Minister’s jurisdiction, this issue has become politically sensitive, especially with the upcoming elections on the horizon.
To address these concerns, the MLAs demanded strengthening of the police force, faster recruitment drives, and greater use of technology to ensure the safety of citizens.
Another significant issue raised was the pending approval and funding for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled to take place in just a year and a half. According to the legislators, preparatory work has yet to begin, causing disappointment among saints, monks, and residents alike. Since no funds have been allocated so far, essential developmental works remain stalled.
The MLAs urged the immediate release of funds for critical infrastructure projects, including roads, water supply, sanitation, transport, and tourist facilities, all vital for the successful hosting of the event.
Additionally, the delegation pressed for the resolution of the long-pending Pune–Nashik railway line project. They noted that this railway line would serve as an alternative to the congested highway, significantly cut travel time, and boost industrial, educational, and trade growth in the region.
“It is the duty of public representatives to honour the sentiments of Nashik residents, and accordingly, we three MLAs met the Chief Minister. He patiently heard all the issues and assured us that they would be addressed at the administrative level. He also agreed to our request that a meeting on these matters be held in Nashik after Diwali. Overall, the CM has assured full cooperation in resolving the problems, keeping in mind the sentiments of Nashik residents,” stated Seema Hiray, MLA of Nashik West.
The meeting marks a positive step toward addressing Nashik’s developmental challenges, with promises of timely action and collaboration from the state government.
